Frequently asked questions

ANZ Plus is ANZ’s digital banking service available in the new ANZ Plus app. It comes with:

  • an ANZ Plus transaction account
  • a multi-goal ANZ Save account
  • a new-look ANZ Plus Visa Debit Card

The ANZ Plus app has a range of features to provide more visibility and control of your money and spending.

You can only access ANZ Plus in the ANZ Plus app.

You can't access other ANZ accounts in the ANZ Plus app.

Other ANZ bank accounts can be accessed through the ANZ app or ANZ Internet Banking, ANZ branches and over the phone.

Some of the things you should think about when you arrive include:

  • Where you will live
  • If and where you will work
  • If and where you or your children will study
  • How you will organise your money
  • How you will look after yourself

The housing market in Australia has undergone significant change in recent years and the demand for rental properties has typically been high. To give yourself the best chance of finding a place to rent, you may want to attend open homes. Open homes are a public viewing held when a home is listed for rent. They allow you to take a look inside a home and get a feel for what living there would be like. Don’t be discouraged if you have to attend a handful of open homes and apply for a number of rentals before securing one – this is frustrating, but normal.

You should take note of:

  • If the home has enough space to accommodate you/ your family
  • If the home is close to amenities, such as public transport, shops and schools
  • What the cost of the home’s rent is
  • How much the bond is
  • How long the lease (contract) for the home is
  • What the terms and conditions, listed in the rental agreement, are like
  • Whether there is any damage, such as broken doors or windows

If you’re in a position to buy a house, or are looking to purchase in the future, there are some things you will have to think about – such as where you want to live, how much you want to pay and what type of property you would like. In Australia, most homes are sold by real estate agents, while some are sold privately by the owners. But before you put down a deposit, it’s important you understand how to make an offer, any contracts and cooling off periods and the current property landscape (including things like interest rates). To borrow money for a property you should speak to a bank or lender.

For further information, please refer to our process of buying a home in Australia.

There are many banks in Australia who offer a range of products and saving or spending options. With ANZ, you can set up your bank account once you have arrived in Australia. You’ll just need some key identification, such as your passport an Australian residential address and an Australian mobile number. You may also need your tax identification number (or your country’s equivalent).

To learn more about and see the full list of acceptable forms of identification documents, see Customer Identification Process (CIP) - Acceptable Identification Documents (PDF).

ANZ Plus accounts can be opened on your mobile by downloading the ANZ Plus app via the Australian App Store or Google Play Store.

Or you can visit an ANZ branch to open classic ANZ bank accounts, like an ANZ Access Advantage account when you arrive in the country, where our friendly staff will help get you started. Note that you cannot open ANZ Plus accounts in an ANZ branch.
