Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting

Our ESG Supplement discloses our ESG performance and management of material issues aligned with our commitment to fair and responsible banking and our focus areas of financial wellbeing, environmental sustainability and housing. It is prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards Principles for Defining Report Content and Quality and is independently assured.

Comparative performance data, including Equator Principles data, our United Nations Guiding Principles Reporting Framework index and our GRI content index  is contained in our separate 2021 ESG data pack.

2021 Assurance

KPMG has provided independent limited assurance in respect of our 2021 ESG Reporting including all material text and data claims in our 2021 ESG Supplement, 2021 ESG Data Pack and ESG information in our 2021 Annual Report and 2021 Annual Review. KPMG has also considered whether the appropriate indicators have been reported in accordance with the GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards Comprehensive level of disclosures.

KPMG has confirmed to ANZ its independence in conducting assurance over ANZ's ESG Reporting within the KPMG assurance statement.

Half year reports

Each year we set public ESG targets and a corresponding group-wide program of work to support the sustainable delivery of our business strategy. We provide an update on our half year progress against targets.

Climate risk disclosures

We aim to provide investors and other stakeholders with clear information enabling them to assess the adequacy of our approach to climate change and our ability to manage the associated risks and opportunities.

We report using the recommendations of the Financial Stability Board Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).

Environmental performance reports

Since 2016, our environmental performance report has been incorporated into our ESG reporting. Our 2021 environmental performance is outlined on pages 29-31 of our 2021 ESG Supplement and in our 2021 ESG Data Pack.

In 2021 KPMG was engaged to conduct independent assurance over ANZ’s global GHG emissions and carbon offset data. Assurance was provided in accordance with International Standard on Assurance Engagements ISAE 3000 Assurance Engagements other than Audits or Reviews of Historical Financial Information, ISAE 3410 Assurance Engagements on Greenhouse Gas Statements and National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (Audit) Determination 2009.
