What's not covered?

Some of the things that aren't covered include:

  • Loss and damage caused by erosion, rust, corrosion, gradual deterioration, wear or tear.
  • Fixtures and fittings and other contents in a strata property that are insured by the body corporate.
  • Loss or damage caused by vermin, insects or birds.
  • Equipment used to earn an income.
  • Glassware, crystal, crockery, mirrors or china while in transit.
  • Previous damage that has not been repaired.
  • Sporting equipment while it's in use.

If your concerns have not been resolved to your satisfaction, you can lodge a complaint with AFCA who provides fair and independent financial services complaint resolution that is free to consumers.

If your contents suffer loss or damage in an insured event, we’ll choose to either: repair or replace an item; or pay the cost of its replacement or repair. Subject to total sum insured and contents with specific limits e.g. limit of $1,000 applies for motor vehicle accessories and spare parts. Refer to the PDS for a full list of contents with specific limits.

We won't cover damage caused by an event excluded under any section of the policy. For example, we won’t cover loss when you can't establish the cause or loss or damage to sporting equipment while it is being used.

We do not cover loss or damage caused by a bushfire, flood or named cyclone that occurs within 48 hours of the start of your policy.

We do not cover the cost to repair or replace an electric motor if it is older than 15 years old.

Contents cover for up to 120 consecutive days away from home. We’ll pay:

- up to the sum insured whilst in Australia or New Zealand
- the lesser of 25% of the sum insured or $15,000, whilst outside Australia and New Zealand.

We do not cover any vehicles, their accessories or spare parts. Refer to the PDS for a full list of contents with specific limits.

Multi policy discount (MPD) is only available if you hold two or more of any of the following policies and are a named insured with the same name on each policy: ANZ Home Insurance, ANZ Landlord Insurance and ANZ Car Insurance (Eligible Policies).  For two Eligible Policies, the MPD is 10%; for three or more the MPD is 12.5%. The MPD is calculated as a percentage discount of the annual base premium per policy.  If you already hold one or more Eligible Policies, the MPD is applied to the newest policy immediately, and for existing policies upon next renewal. If you do not hold any Eligible Policies with us and purchase multiple Eligible Policies simultaneously, no MPD is applied to the first policy, a 10% MPD is applied to the second, a 12.5% is applied to each policy thereafter, and the relevant MPD of 10% or 12.5% will be applied to all policies (including the first) on renewal. The MPD rate is subject to change.
