What's included?

What’s covered?

ANZ Life Insurance provides two types of cover:

  • Life Cover – provides a lump sum payment to your nominated beneficiaries when you die. You can also choose to access your full Life Cover amount if you’re diagnosed with a terminal illness and have less than 12 months to livedisclaimer.
  • Critical Illness Cover (Optional) – this addition to your policy provides a lump sum payment if you suffer one of the listed illnesses or injuries covered such as cancer (excluding less advanced cases), heart attack (diagnosed) or stroke (diagnosed)disclaimer.

What’s not covered?

We don't pay a claim if it relates to:

  • suicide (within the first 13 months)
  • war (whether or not it’s formally declared), hostilities, civil commotion or insurrection
  • your intentional act or omission.

Depending on your cover, a pre-existing medical condition exclusion may apply to your policy. If so, this will be shown on your Policy Schedule.

A pre-existing medical condition is an illness, injury or condition that, in the five years before the policy start date:

  • you were aware of, or
  • a reasonable person in the circumstances could be expected to be aware of.

How to apply

1. Be prepared

Get a quote within minutes by answering a few simple questions online. But before you get started, it's important to check that you're eligible to apply. You can apply for ANZ Life Insurance if:

  • you are between 18 and 59 years old inclusive
  • you are currently living in and receiving this Product Disclosure Statement in Australia, and are either:
    • an Australian or New Zealand Citizen, or
    • an Australian Permanent Resident.
  • you don’t have cover in place at the time you apply for this policy under an existing ANZ Life Insurance policy, or with OnePath Life that exceeds $2 million of Life cover.

You can apply for optional Critical Illness Cover if at the time of applying:

  • you do not have cover in place that exceeds $1 million critical illness or trauma cover with OnePath Life
  • you do not have an existing ANZ Recover Well policy which commenced on or after 21 May 2016, and you don't exceed the combined Critical Illness Cover amounts for your age as shown in the 'How much cover you can apply for' section of the ANZ Life Insurance Product Disclosure Statement and Policy (PDS) (PDF 196kB).   

If you purchase this policy but don’t meet all of the criteria, we will void your policy and refund any premiums you’ve paid, in accordance with the policy terms or our legal rights.

2. Customise your cover

Our policies are flexible so you can tailor the cover to suit you. You can choose to pay fortnightly or monthly instead of annually, and choose a cover amount between $50,000 and up to $2 million depending on your needs.

3. Get started

Product Disclosure Statement

You must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for cover.  If you purchase this policy but don’t meet all of the criteria, we will void your policy and refund any premiums you’ve paid, in accordance with the policy terms or our legal rights.

 

You can apply for ANZ Life Insurance if:

Entry age: You are between 18 and 59 years old inclusive

Residency: You are currently living in and receiving this PDS in Australia, and are either:

  • an Australian or New Zealand Citizen, or
  • an Australian Permanent Resident.

Existing cover: At the time you apply for this policy, you do not have cover in place either:

  • under an existing ANZ Life Insurance policy, or
  • with OnePath Life that exceeds $2 million of Life cover.

To be eligible to apply for the optional Critical Illness Cover, at the time of applying you must also:

  • not exceed $1 million of critical illness or trauma cover with OnePath Life, and
  • if you have an ANZ Recover Well policy issued by us which commenced on or after 21 May 2016, not exceed the combined Critical Illness Cover amounts for your age as shown in the ‘How much cover you can apply for’ section of the ANZ Life Insurance Product Disclosure Statement and Policy (PDS) (PDF 145kB).

External dispute resolution

If your concerns have not been resolved to your satisfaction, you can lodge a complaint with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) who provides fair and independent financial services complaint resolution that is free to consumers.

The amount of cover you can apply for depends on your age and gross annual income at the time you apply for cover. To determine whether to accept your application for cover, we may ask you some health, occupation and lifestyle questions. The number of questions we ask you may vary depending on the level of cover you select.

Payment is within 5 business days of receiving your full Australian Death Certificate or other satisfactory evidence stating the cause of your death. We pay the Advance Assistance Benefit to your primary beneficiary, if you have one. If you have no primary beneficiary, we pay the benefit to the legal personal representative of your estate.

If you select the optional Critical Illness Cover, some specified conditions such as cancer (excluding less advanced cases), heart attack (diagnosed), stroke (diagnosed) and angioplasty are subject to the 90-day qualifying period for the benefit to be payable.

If you’re diagnosed with a terminal illness and have less than 12 months to live, you can choose to get your full Life Cover amount immediately.

Optional Critical Illness Cover is available when you apply for your ANZ Life Insurance policy at an extra cost, with the maximum cover amount available being half of the Life Cover amount selected. Full payment of the Critical Illness Cover is available for eight specified conditions such as cancer (excluding less advanced cases), heart attack (diagnosed) & stroke (diagnosed), whilst some conditions such as carcinoma in situ (of limited sites), angioplasty & diabetes mellitus adult, insulin dependent diagnosed after age 30, result in a partial payment of the Critical Illness Cover. Some specified conditions such as cancer (excluding less advanced cases), stroke (diagnosed), heart attack (diagnosed), coronary artery by-pass surgery, carcinoma in situ (of limited sites), angioplasty, endometriosis (severe requiring surgical intervention) and diabetes mellitus adult, insulin dependent diagnosed after age 30 are subject to a 90 day qualifying period for the benefit to be payable.
