Super and retirement solutions

What is superannuation?

Your super is one of your most valuable assets. It's a retirement fund that you contribute to and invest in over the course of your working life. While your retirement may seem far off, your super is essential to your financial independence.

Your employer generally pays 9.5 per cent of your salary to your super account (called Superannuation Guarantee contributions). There may also be tax incentives for paying in extra yourself.

You can usually only access your super once retired, but taking action now can give you a better retirement down the track.

Your super. Your choice.

Most employers let you choose a super fund, but if you don't choose, they'll pay contributions into a default fund. Choose the fund that suits you and look for:

Low fees - fees can vary greatly, and high fees can erode your balance.

Investment choice - choose a fund with investment options that suit your needs.

Insurance - some funds offer tax-effective insurance for you and your family.

One super account for life.

Many of us pick up a new super account with each new job, and end up paying multiple sets of account fees.

Choosing a single super account that stays with you from job to job can help you:

  • reduce your costs, with only one set of fees
  • manage your investments more easily
  • keep track of how much money you have.
