Set up my security features

We’ve introduced new security features to make Internet Banking even safer but just as simple and easy to use as before.

All you need to do is select and answer three challenge questions. These questions and answers are personal to you and provide an extra level of security.

You may be prompted to answer these challenge questions from time to time when you are completing an action in Internet Banking.

Do I need to set this up?

Challenge questions are compulsory so you will need to set them up to be able to access Internet Banking.

How do I set up my security features?

Setting up your security feature is easy. Just follow the steps below.

Step 1 – Start the setup

This is the first page of the setup process. There are two options:

Option 1 – Start now

The setup process only takes a few minutes, so complete it now by selecting  "Continue".

Option 2 - Set up next time (if applicable)

You can choose not to set up your challenge questions this time by selecting "Skip".

You cannot postpone indefinitely – you can skip setup the number of times indicated. After this, you’ll have to set up your challenge questions to access ANZ Internet Banking.

Step 2 – Select my challenge questions

Choose your first challenge question.

Type your personal answer in the answer field

Repeat these steps for questions two and three.

Take a moment to check the questions and their answers and be sure that you haven’t spelled anything incorrectly.

When you are comfortable that you have chosen a personal question with an answer you can easily remember select "Submit".

Selecting "Submit" will complete the setup process and take you to the confirmation page.

Important notes

Choose questions that are personal to you, ones that only you know the answers to and that aren’t easily guessed.

Your answer should be one you will easily remember in the future.

You cannot use the same answer for all three questions.

Answers are case sensitive.

Be aware of spelling when typing answers - if there is a mistake it might contradict the answer you provide when the question is presented in the future

Your challenge questions and answers are like a PIN or password. You should keep these secret and not disclose them to anyone. Don’t write them down or record them anywhere. If you don’t follow these instructions, you may be liable for any loss arising from an unauthorised transaction.

Along with challenge questions there are a range of security measures making Internet Banking even safer, including a Fraud Detection System, encryption, firewalls and automatic time-outs.

No. For security reasons you cannot make up your own questions.

You must choose from the list provided.

No, your questions must be chosen from the selection provided.

You cannot refresh or update the selection.

Your answers are encrypted and stored in a secure system in the same way as your ANZ Internet Banking password. The system uses your stored answers to electronically compare with what you provide when challenged. Only you can see what your answers are, not even ANZ staff are able to access this information.

The answer fields will be displayed within the same page as you select your challenge questions.  

Remember: ANZ will never provide you with a link to Internet Banking via email.

When you make certain transactions or have any activity on Internet Banking that may be considered unusual you may be presented with one or more of your challenge questions.

When you answer the question(s) correctly we can verify your identity to authorise your transactions securely.

If you answer the questions incorrectly your transactions may not be authorised.

Yes, you can change your challenge questions anytime. Just go to 'Profile' within ANZ Internet Banking. To reset your challenge questions you will need to answer your existing challenge questions correctly.
