How do I close an account?
If you don't want your ANZ Plus Everyday, ANZ Plus Growth Saver or ANZ Plus Flex Saver accounts anymore, you can submit a request to close an account in the ANZ Plus app.
Before submitting a request, here are some things to keep in mind:
- To use the ANZ Plus app, you'll need to hold at least one ANZ Plus account (including ANZ Plus Home Loan). If you choose to close all of your ANZ Plus accounts, it might mean saying goodbye to ANZ Plus.
- To close an account, you'll need to return the balance to $0.00, which means if you're closing an ANZ Plus Growth Saver account you will not earn bonus interest on it that month.
- If you're using your ANZ Plus Everyday account to offset or repay an ANZ Plus Home Loan, you'll need to de-link it in the app and remember to make sure you're set up to cover your repayments moving forward.
- If you're planning to use the ANZ Plus Growth Saver account on its own, please keep in mind it has limited payment capabilities.
- If you'll still have any accounts with ANZ, any unpaid interest you've accrued on your savings (and any other amounts we owe you) may be redirected to one of those accounts unless you ask us to direct them to an account with another financial institution.
Closing an account
If you're ready to close an account, please:
- Return the balance of the account to $0.001.
- Check there aren’t any pending transactions.
- Redirect or cancel any direct debits or linked PayTo subscriptions.
- If you're closing an account with ANZ Plus that's being used to offset your ANZ Plus Home Loan, de-link it in the Loans tab in the ANZ Plus app.
Once you're ready to submit your request:
- Go to the Profile icon.
- Tap on Account Details.
- Tap on Close Account below the account you'd like to close and follow the prompts.
If you'd like to close multiple accounts, you'll need to follow the steps to close them one by one.
1. You can skip this step if your account is an ANZ Plus Growth Saver and it's your only ANZ Plus account.
Any advice is general and might not be right for you.
If you can't find the option to close an account when viewing your Account Details, you may need to update your ANZ Plus app to the latest version.
