What is a credit check?
A credit check, also known as a credit enquiry, is usually required when applying for credit such as a home loan, personal loan or even a telephone contract.
We'll let you know before we make this credit enquiry within your application, and your credit data will also be pre-filled into your finances section of the application. Nifty.
For joint applications, the information we receive from the credit bureaus will be visible to both applicants in the finances section, and you will both need to agree to this before you continue. If one, or both of you are not comfortable with sharing credit data with the other person, you can choose not to continue with the application.
How does a credit check work?
A credit check provides us with a Credit Report from one or more Australian Credit Bureaus. This report provides us with important information in relation to your credit history, the credit accounts you hold, and your credit score.
A credit check is recorded on your Credit Report for a period of five years regardless of whether or not you proceed with the credit being applied for.
