Privacy Collection Notice

This is the Privacy Collection Notice that applies to your ANZ Plus Loan or a joint ANZ Plus Loan for you and someone else (after this we'll just call it the Loan). The Privacy Collection Notice that applies to your ANZ Plus Account and ANZ Save Account and your use of other services associated with ANZ Plus (such as contacting a Coach or attending an ANZ Plus Coaching Lab) can be found on the ANZ Plus Website.

Your personal information is being collected by us! We’re Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ABN 11 005 357 522) Australian Financial Services Licence Number 234527.

This is an important document. You should read it.

Info we collect

Types of information we collect

As an existing customer of ANZ Plus, we've already collected some information from you when you signed up to ANZ Plus and opened an ANZ Plus Account and an ANZ Save Account. For your Loan, we'll need to collect some additional information. We may collect:

  • your full name (and any preferred name or previous name changes), postal address, current and previous residential addresses and occupation
  • your email address and mobile number
  • details of your identity - like your date of birth, passport, drivers licence, Medicare card details and citizenship and tax residency details
  • details of any relationship you are in and if you are the sole income earner in that relationship (if you are currently living with that person)
  • details of any dependents you may have (generally anyone you support financially)
  • details about your current occupation - like your employer, job title, start date and income
  • details about the kind of Loan you are seeking – like amount, term and whether your goal is to pay less overall or pay off your Loan more quickly
  • if you're refinancing a current loan, information about your current property and current loan
  • if applicable, internal information from other parts of ANZ relating to any existing savings, transaction or loan accounts you have with ANZ
  • how you use the ANZ Plus App - including any goals set (including your goals and priorities when it comes to refinancing) and any other features you use
  • details about your visits to our websites - like the pages you view, any links you click and information about your mobile phone
  • biometric information about you - like a selfie photo of you, a recording of your voice and behavioural details about how you use your mobile phone (such as how you type, click, scroll and swipe)
  • details of payments you make or receive using our products and services (including any requests to stop a payment)
  • details of your other accounts (whether with ANZ or with another bank or other financial institution) and other financial information you provide to us - like details of your debts (such as from credit cards, buy now pay later products, HECS-HELP amounts owing, other home loans or personal loans and related information like credit limits, interest rates and terms) and assets, regular income and expenses and transaction history
  • if you give it, details of your experiences of using our products and services, including on social media, via your mobile phone's app store or in our ANZ Plus Coaching Labs
  • how you interact with any messages we send you by email, SMS or push notification - like when you open or read the message and if you follow any links and
  • any other information that you give us.

Sensitive Information

We generally won’t ask you to give us any sensitive information. Sensitive information is information about health, religious, political or philosophical views, sexual orientation, biometric or genetic information, criminal record (if any) and membership of a union or professional, trade or political association.

However, we collect, use and disclose behavioural biometric information about how you use your mobile phone (or other device) and the ANZ Plus App to help prevent fraud. We also collect, use and disclose the biometric information about you that you provide to us as part of verifying your identity, including confirming your identity when you're using the ANZ Plus App. We may also collect, use and disclose other sensitive information you provide to us when raising an issue or concern with us (such as if you tell us about a health problem you're experiencing when you make a hardship claim).

How we collect your information

We'll generally collect information about you directly from you, including when you use In-App Messaging or when completing a form on our website. We also collect some information automatically, such as your mobile phone's IP address and location. If you've already provided certain information we need (like when you joined ANZ Plus for the first time), we may ask you to confirm that this information is still accurate when you apply for a Loan.

We may also receive information about you from:

  • other parts of ANZ, including if you're already an ANZ customer
  • third parties who provide services to us or who interact with you on our behalf (such as when you answer a survey)
  • third parties who represent you or who deal with us on your behalf
  • government agencies
  • credit reporting bodies and
  • other financial institutions, such as when we process a payment that you receive or if you agree another financial institutions can share your information with us under the 'open banking' consumer data right regime.

Why we collect, use and disclose your information

We collect, use and disclose information about you to:

  • confirm your identity and to conduct ongoing customer due diligence
  • consider your application for a product or service that we may provide you
  • communicate with you about your application and your Loan, including providing statements and other notices
  • try to answer questions you may have and to give information to you (as well as for providing feedback to our staff who help you)
  • providing helpful information (which may include details of upcoming or predicted Loan repayments)
  • work out what other products or services may be of interest to you, tell you about them and arrange for third parties to advertise our products and services to you on our behalf
  • if we refer you to another part of ANZ, to enable other parts of our business to contact you in relation to providing alternative lending products and services
  • help us manage your Loan and to perform other administrative and operational tasks – like quality assurance, risk management, tax residency assessments, product and system development and testing, credit scoring, data analytics, staff training, complaints handling, debt collection and market research or customer satisfaction research and
  • identify, prevent, investigate and respond to any suspected or actual fraud, unlawful activity or misconduct.

Concerns, Complaints and Feedback

In some circumstances, we may also collect, use and disclose information about you:

  • to consider any concerns you raise with us
  • to respond to any complaints you make or feedback you give, or as part of any legal action involving us and
  • where we're required by a law, court order or regulatory authority.

If we (or others on our behalf) tell you about products or services and you no longer want us to, you’ll be able to change your preferences in the ANZ Plus App.

Credit reporting

We may disclose your personal information to credit reporting bodies to request a credit report and other information about you. We then collect credit information and credit eligibility information about you from those credit reporting bodies when they respond to our request.

We use and disclose personal information, credit information and credit eligibility information about you to assess your creditworthiness (including to create our own internal assessments) and to consider your application for a Loan.

If you have a Loan with us, we may also disclose personal information and credit information to the credit reporting bodies that we deal with, including information about your credit liabilities, repayments and defaults.

Our Credit Reporting Collection Notice is available on the ANZ Privacy website. It gives more information about our credit reporting practices – like:

  • what information we disclose to credit reporting bodies and why
  • the credit reporting bodies that we deal with and how to contact them and
  • how you can exercise your rights (including if you have been a victim of fraud, if you want to access or correct your credit information or how to make a complaint).

Your information

Information required by law

We're required by some laws to collect some types of information from you – like anti-money laundering laws, financial services laws, superannuation laws and taxation laws. More details about these laws can be found in our Privacy Policy and on the ANZ Privacy Website.

What happens if you don't give us the information we ask for

If you don't give us information about yourself when we ask or we can't collect information about you from a third party:

  • you may not be able to apply for a Loan or another product or service
  • we won't be able to conduct a credit assessment on you, which means we may not be able to approve you for a Loan
  • we may not be able to provide you with a product or service or assist you with a request
  • we might not be able to pre-populate some of the details you need to provide during the application process (but you can provide these yourself)
  • you may not be able to use some of the features of the ANZ Plus App
  • we may not be able to personalise our website and our communications with you or
  • we may not be able to help you with any technical or other issues that you're having.

We can give your info to others

We can give your personal information to:

  • other parts of ANZ, including other companies in the ANZ group, including if we refer you to another part of ANZ (such as if you're not eligible for an ANZ Plus Loan) and so that they can help us carry out our functions and activities, perform administrative and operational tasks (including debt recovery) on our behalf and to comply with legal and regulatory requirements
  • IT service providers
  • others that help us perform our functions and activities – like preparing and sending you statements about your Loan, providing useful information about your transactions, sending you feedback surveys on our behalf, doing identity verification and helping us to identify, prevent, investigate and respond to fraud, unlawful activity or misconduct
  • others that help us promote our products and services
  • other banks, financial institutions, credit providers and payment system participants, including BPAY, whose privacy policy is available at www.bpay.com.au/privacy
  • only with your consent, authorised data recipients under the 'open banking' consumer data right regime that you ask us to share your information with
  • regulatory bodies, government agencies, law enforcement bodies, courts, tribunals and complaints handling bodies
  • if ANZ transfers its rights to another party, that third party
  • others we're authorised or required by law or court or tribunal order to disclose information to or
  • someone you have authorised to act on your behalf – like a financial adviser, lawyer, accountant or holder of a power of attorney from you, or an executor, guardian, administrator or trustee in bankruptcy.

Some of these recipients may be located overseas or may store your information outside of Australia, including in the United States of America. More details about the location of these recipients is in our Privacy Policy and on the ANZ Privacy Website.

Joint Loans

Applying for a joint Loan

If you're applying for a Loan with someone else:

  • we may also ask you to provide us with the mobile phone number for the second person so that we can link their application with yours to form a joint Loan application after the second person has completed the ANZ Plus sign up and log in processes
  • if you're the second person, we'll collect your mobile phone number from the first person in order to link their application with yours to form a joint Loan application
  • we may also collect, use and disclose information about the second person as part of considering your joint Loan application and
  • if you don't give us information about the second person applying for the Loan with you when we ask, then we won't be able to link the second person to your application or add them as a joint applicant to the Loan.

Information shared with the second person

If you hold a Loan with another person, or are applying for a Loan with another person, personal information about you that you provide to us or which we collect about you from third parties will also be visible to the second person, including:

  • your full name
  • your address
  • details of any offset accounts and the availability of any offset benefits
  • details of your personal accounts with ANZ and with any other banks or other financial institutions. Depending on the source of this information, the second person may be able to see:
    • whether the account is jointly or solely held
    • the BSB number of the account and
    • either the last four digits of the account number or the full account number
    • the account balance, the credit limit or overdraft limit (if applicable) and
    • the product type
  • details of any other savings accounts that you have provided to us, including whether it is jointly or solely held, the institution, account balance and the savings type and
  • details of any other accounts or liabilities we receive as a result of conducting any credit checks.

What some words mean

We use some words from the ANZ Plus Home Loan T&Cs in this document – like ANZ Plus App, BPay and Privacy Policy. Those words have the same meaning in this document too. You can get a copy on the ANZ Plus Website.
