ANZ comments on market speculation

ANZ has been made aware of market speculation about a potential capital raising. In response, ANZ can advise: 

• ANZ’s pro-forma 2008 Tier 1 capital ratio stood at 8.35%, substantially above regulatory requirements and among the strongest of the major banks in Australia and globally.
• There are no current plans for a capital raising.

ANZ will provide its regular market update, covering four months trading in the 2009 financial year, on Thursday, 26 February 2009.
