SMS one-time passcode (OTP)

An extra layer of protection for your ANZ online banking activities.

SMS OTP can provide more protection for your ANZ online banking activities. We may send you a SMS OTP to verify a range of online banking activities, such Pay Anyone payments and creating a PayID.

Both personal and business customers will have this additional layer of security added to their accounts. If you use ANZ’s Internet Banking for Business, you will continue to use your ANZ security device, or ANZ Shield.

FAQs

How does it work?

A one-time passcode is a single use passcode for only one ANZ online banking activity. We will send you a SMS OTP to your mobile phone number we have on our records, to confirm certain ANZ online banking activities.

Don't disclose this code to anyone, even if asked by someone purporting to be from ANZ. Simply enter the code to complete your action.

How does it protect me?

This is an example of multi-factor authentication which can provide an additional layer of security when using ANZ digital services.

1st factor - Something you know

Your customer registration number (CRN) and passcode are the first-factor or first layer of authentication used to confirm your identity.

2nd factor – Something you have

The second-factor is an additional authentication layer. A one-time password sent to your mobile phone provides this additional layer and may be requested to verify a range of online banking activities.

Registering for SMS OTP

You don’t need to register for SMS OTP. You will automatically be issued with SMS OTPs, as long as we have your correct mobile phone number on our records. You can check and update your mobile number in the 'Profile' section of ANZ Internet Banking.

FAQs

Pay Anyone payment

If you’re making a Pay Anyone payment, you can install ANZ Shield. ANZ Shield is an application for mobile phones available in Google Play and Apple App stores.  You do not need to be online to use ANZ Shield.  Once you have downloaded the App, ANZ Shield can be used as an offline authentication tool – so even in areas without reception this will work.
