What's not covered?

Some of the things that ANZ Travel Insurance doesn't cover include:

  • Luggage or personal effects that are left unattended.
  • Medical, dental or ancillary costs incurred within Australia.
  • Claims arising from participation in certain activities, including professional sports, base jumping, mountaineering, rock climbing and running with the bulls.

To be eligible for ANZ Travel Insurance, you must:

  • Live in Australia and be eligible for a Medicare card
  • Be in Australia when we issue your Certificate of Insurance
  • Plan to return to Australia if you’re going overseas
  • Take out insurance before you start your trip, but no earlier than 12 months before you travel.

You’re even covered if you have a pre-existing medical condition - see our list of automatically covered conditions.

Additional medical information

As well as your application, you’ll need to provide a Traveller’s Medical Appraisal Form if you are:

  • Under 70 years of age, with a pre-existing medical condition that’s not automatically covered.
  • Over 70 years of age.

If you would like to compliment one of our staff or make a suggestion on how we can improve, we want to know. If we made a mistake, or our service does not meet your expectations, we also want to know.

Our customer care unit is your first point of contact for raising complaints or providing feedback. You can contact us directly via phone, email or in writing and we will endeavour to resolve your concerns quickly and fairly. We will aim to resolve your complaint within 15 business days.

External dispute resolution

If you're not satisfied with the outcome of your complaint, or if we’ve taken more than 45 days to respond to you from the date you first made your complaint, you can contact the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), an ASIC approved external dispute resolution body.

FOS is a free service that resolves insurance disputes between consumers and insurers. If you wish to access FOS, you can contact them:

Escalating your complaint

If you're not satisfied with the resolution offered by our customer care unit, you can have your complaint reviewed by a Dispute Resolution Specialist.

A final decision will be provided within 15 business days of your complaint being escalated, unless they have requested and you have agreed to give them more time.

We will pay medical expenses which we believe are reasonable and necessary to treat the illness or injury.

We will pay dental expenses which we believe are reasonable and necessary to treat an injury to healthy natural teeth, and up to $2,000 (single) and $4,000 (double) for treatment resulting from sudden and acute pain.
