Seniors' home and contents insurance

Published 9 October 2018

Insurance needs change as we age, and ANZ Home Insurance with contents cover has features and benefits to suit your priorities.

Your insurance needs to suit your current priorities, what a young graduate requires – perhaps renting while saving for a home or travel – is likely to be different to the needs of someone bringing up children or nearing retirement.

Seniors’ home and contents insurance at ANZ is simply called home and contents insurance. But we have particular benefits for policyholders aged over 50. This is because we know the requirements and lifestyle of those over 50 tends to be different to those of younger ages.

Specifically, at ANZ we offer a discount on the cost of your premiums for those over 50 (whether you’re still working, retired, self-funded or on a pension) as part of our flexible Home Insurance. We also provide the added benefit of cover if you break an arm or leg at home.disclaimer

So whether you’re a 51-year-old still bringing up kids, 60 years of age and planning your post-work life or in your late 70s and well into retirement, ANZ’s home and contents insurance is a great option.

Our insurance for seniors in action

Here are some examples of actual claims that ANZ has paid out in the past couple of years.

  • A 79-year-old customer fell in her living room and fractured her hip. She was admitted to hospital and received a benefit from her policy.

  • A 57-year-old customer fractured both ankles while cleaning her caravan (parked at her property) and received benefits from her policy to help with her recovery.

  • A customer’s pet dogs ate their hearing aids after they’d accidentally knocked them off a bench. ANZ paid $2466 (after excess) for replacement hearing aids. Another customer lost their hearing aids at home and we paid $4840 (after excess) for replacements. These customers were covered because they took out the Accidental Damage optional benefit.
