Does my insurance cover me for COVID-19?

Wondering whether you’re covered for COVID-19? We answer the FAQs about your insurance cover. 

We understand there’s a lot of uncertainty right now. As the world reacts to the COVID-19 pandemic, we want to reassure our ANZ insurance policy holders we’re here to help.

Your existing ANZ Life and Consumer Credit Insurance policies do not have inbuilt exclusions for claims resulting from a pandemic infection.

This article applies to our customers that purchased one of the following ANZ Life or Consumer Credit Insurance products:

ANZ Life insurance products purchased after 21 May 2016

  • ANZ Life Insurance
  • ANZ Income Protection
  • ANZ Recover Well.

ANZ Consumer Credit Insurance products

  • ANZ Mortgage Protection
  • ANZ Loan Protection Insurance
  • ANZ Credit Card Insurance products.

Our insurance partners reassure ANZ and our customers that the insurance products listed above do not contain exclusions that would prevent claims from being paid due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are carefully monitoring the situation to ensure essential functions, such as dealing with claims and customer enquiries, are prioritised.

Below, we answer the top frequently asked questions on ANZ life and credit card insurance and COVID-19.

 

1. I have an existing ANZ insurance policy. Am I covered if I contract COVID-19?

Generally, you will be covered as long as you are outside of the qualifying and waiting periods set out in your policy, and meet the following criteria:

  • you contracted the virus after your policy started
  • your policy is in force and you have paid all premiums
  • you satisfy all other terms and conditions of your policy and at law (including duty of disclosure).

 

2. How do I know if my policy has involuntary unemployment cover?

The following ANZ insurance products offer involuntary unemployment cover:

ANZ life insurance products

  • ANZ Income Protection.

ANZ consumer credit insurance products

  • ANZ Mortgage Protection
  • ANZ Loan Protection Insurance
  • ANZ Credit Card Insurance products.

Some of our insurance products have involuntary unemployment cover as an optional benefit. Please check your policy or call us directly at 13 16 14  to confirm if your policy has this cover.

3. I have an existing ANZ insurance policy with involuntary unemployment cover. Am I covered for unemployment if I contract COVID-19?

If you have met the qualifying period generally you will be covered. It’s important to understand how cover for involuntary unemployment works.

If your employment circumstances have changed and you are no longer employed or temporarily suspended from work, please call the ANZ Insurance Centre on 13 16 14. One of our insurance specialists will provide you with a better understanding as to how claims are assessed and managed during these challenging times.

4. Am I covered if I have taken out an ANZ life or consumer credit insurance product?

The answer depends on which product you took out and when, plus the relevant definitions, waiting period and qualifying period. Below is a simple guide, bur please refer to the relevant Product Disclosure Statements (PDS) for more detail. See your PDS from purchase or visit anz.com.au/insurance.

5. Is it too late to take out life or consumer credit insurance for COVID-19?

You can apply for an ANZ Life Insurance or ANZ Recover Well policy now, and we will ask you some additional questions when you apply. It’s also important you understand the specifics of each product, including the corresponding qualifying periods and exclusions and limitations.

Consumer credit insurance products are not available to new customers. Existing customers can contact the ANZ Insurance Centre on 13 16 14  (Mon-Fri 8.00am to 8.00pm) for more information about their policy or to make a claim.

7. How can I make a claim?

Before calling, please make sure you have your policy number handy.

ANZ Life Insurance, ANZ Income Protection, ANZ Recover Well, and ANZ Credit Card Insurance customers can make a claim by:

  • calling us on 13 16 14 weekdays, 9am - 5pm (AEST)
  • emailing us at diclaims@onepath.com.au
  • writing to OnePath Direct Insurance Claims, PO Box 7086, Sydney, NSW 2001. 
     

For ANZ Mortgage Protection and ANZ Loan Protection Insurance customers

If you want to lodge a claim under your Mortgage Protection or Loan Protection Policy, please send an email to CCClaims@qbe.com with your full name, policy number and whether you’re intending to claim for disability or involuntary unemployment and an appropriate claim form will be sent to you within 24 hours. 

While we are currently experiencing large volumes of claim lodgements, a QBE claim representative will endeavour to contact you as soon as possible.
