ANZ provides financial support for customers dealing with the mouse plague in regional Australia

2021-05-28 09:43

ANZ today announced it would provide financial support to help customers and businesses in New South Wales and southern Queensland affected by the mouse plague.

Fuelled by a bumper harvest season, millions of mice have wreaked havoc across large swathes of agricultural land in regional New South Wales and southern Queensland, causing significant damage to property and crops.

ANZ encourages customers affected to contact their dedicated agribusiness banker when they’re ready to discuss their needs and to understand the range of financial support measures that might assist, which might include the waiving of fees and temporarily pausing loan repayments.

ANZ’s head of Agribusiness Mark Bennett said: “This plague is proving very costly and disruptive. Many regional customers were still finding their feet after the drought and now as they recover, they have another problem to deal with.”

“Mice have destroyed stored hay and grain and continue to raid freshly sown crops, meaning many farmers have lost valuable inventory and have been forced to re-sow. We want to support our impacted customers and we hope the measures can help them navigate these issues with improved confidence.”

ANZ customers can also call the dedicated hardship team on 1800 351 548 to discuss their specific circumstances and how the bank can assist them with a tailored solution.
