ANZ provides donations and support to cyclone-hit Fiji and Samoa

2012-12-21 12:58

ANZ today announced it will provide cash donations of FJ$100,000 (AU$55,000) to Fiji and WST100,000 (AU$45,000) to Samoa to support people impacted by the devastating Cyclone Evan in the Pacific.

ANZ will also provide a number of assistance measures for affected customers in both countries to offer additional financial support and to assist in clean-up and rehabilitation efforts.

ANZ CEO Pacific and Fiji Vishnu Mohan said: “Cyclone Evan has caused significant damage in Fiji and Samoa and we understand the impact that disasters like this have. We want our customers to know that we will stand beside them as the clean-up begins and we hope these donations and assistance packages provide relief as they focus on the recovery.”

ANZ has also announced that it will waive fees for international money transfers to Fiji and Samoa for the rest of the year. Designed to assist the flow of donations or payments from Australia-based relatives to Fiji and Samoa, the fee waiver will apply to all transfers made by ANZ Internet Banking from today.

ANZ Managing Director Retail Distribution Mark Hand said: “We recognise the devastation caused by Cyclone Evan and the major challenges faced by both Fiji and Samoa in its aftermath. By waiving fees we aim to support the flow of urgently needed cash and relief to ensure it gets to the people of Fiji and Samoa so they can start rebuilding their lives.”

ANZ has operated in the Pacific for 130 years and is represented in 12 Pacific countries.
