General Questions

ANZ BladePay™ is a smart payment-taking device that some of Australia’s market leading Point of Sale (POS) vendors have built apps for. These apps connect your ANZ BladePay™ device to your existing POS system. This opens up new opportunities for you to potentially improve your in-store experience. ANZ BladePay™ together with the right POS vendor app could:

  • Simplify the payment experience in your dine-in restaurant
    • With ANZ BladePay™ and the right POS vendor app, customers can easily pay on the spot, or pay later at the table. Whenever they choose to pay, we’ve made it easy, as order and billing information is displayed on the device. Once payment has been made, the table is automatically closed off in your POS system. Increase efficiency with no more running back to your counter POS to close tables.
  • Take orders at the customer’s table directly into your POS
    • Want to reduce double handling and potentially minimise incorrect orders? With ANZ BladePay™ and the right POS vendor app, orders taken at the customers’ tables are sent directly to the kitchen. Then, customers could choose to pay on the spot.
  • Queue-bust and maximise sales at your quick service restaurant
    • With ANZ BladePay™ and the right POS vendor app in hand, your staff can walk a queue and take orders, scan items using the in-built barcode scanner, and complete card payments in next to no time.

The benefits your business will see depend on the functionality of your POS vendor’s app and your desired in-store experience.

We’ve designed ANZ BladePay™ to sit comfortably in one hand, while packing in the features that make it great for businesses:

  • An 8-hour battery life
  • 5-inch HD screen
  • GPS functionality

Keep in mind these features can only be accessed via a third party POS vendor app built for ANZ BladePay™ with the appropriate functionality.

Please note that you'll need to use the same payment method as the performed transaction (either card present or card not present) to process a refund.

To process a refund on an ANZ BladePayTM device, you need to:

  • Open the ANZ FastPay® Next Generation app on your ANZ BladePay™ device.
  • Select ‘Transactions’, scroll to locate the transaction to refund, then tap it. You can also search for the amount within a date range by tapping the search icon at the top.
  • Enter your ANZ FastPay® Next Generation app log in PIN.
  • Select ‘Refund’.
  • Confirm that the details are accurate and ask the customer if they would like a receipt, then press ‘Continue’.
  • A refund summary screen will appear and if correct, press ‘Confirm’.
  • Ask the customer to insert or swipe their card and select their account type, OR enter the card details for a MOTO transaction refund.
  • Ask the customer to confirm that the amount displayed is correct and press ‘Yes’, then enter their PIN and follow the prompts.

Please note that you may like to record refunds in your POS terminal too.

Currently, MOTO transactions are available via the ANZ FastPay® Next Generation app. To process a new MOTO sale, you need to:

  • Open the ANZ FastPay® Next Generation app on your ANZ BladePay™ device.
  • Select the ‘New Sale’ option from the main navigation menu.
  • Press the ‘Mail or Telephone Order Only’ button.
  • Populate the following customer's card details and tap ‘Next’:
    • Amount
    • Description of the transaction
    • Name of the Customer (does not have to match the name on the card)
    • Cardholder Name (which is the name on the card)
    • Card Number
    • Expiry
    • CVC/CVV
  • Confirm that the details are correct and press the ‘Confirm and Process Sale’ button.
  • If the transaction was approved by the card issuing bank, then you will receive a successful sales message.
  • You will then have the option of sending the customer a receipt, either via email or SMS. Enter the customer’s details and press ‘Send’.

If you entered the customer's details correctly, the receipt will be send to the customer accordingly. Please note that a copy of the receipt will also be emailed to the Merchant email address associated with that Merchant ID.

While we work on an optimal solution for visually impaired customers, we recommend you use MOTO in the interim.

The number of ANZ BladePayTM devices you'll need is determined by the type of restaurant you have:

  • For dine-in restaurants where customers will benefit from ANZ BladePay’s™ pay and order at table abilities, you may need one ANZ BladePayTM device per wait staff to realise the full benefit.
  • For quick service restaurants needing only queue-busting benefits, you may just need one device.


Yes, but only if your POS vendor has developed an app for ANZ BladePay™. Talk to your POS vendor about how loading their app onto ANZ BladePay™ could improve your business. If your vendor doesn’t have an app for ANZ BladePay™ you could ask them to submit their details. We’ll then talk to them about developing an app that can be used on our device.

No, you don’t. But settlement for payments taken using ANZ BladePay™ is typically quicker if you settle into an ANZ business account. During the ANZ BladePay™ application process we'll discuss setting up an ANZ business account for you.


Set up

Apply for a merchant facility with us. If we approve your application, we’ll send your ANZ BladePay™ device, along with Merchant ID, username and one-time passcode in approximately 5-7 working days.

At the same time, talk to your POS vendor, who will give you an ANZ BladePay™ App Suite Code so you can download their app onto your device.

We’ve put together a video to help you set up your ANZ BladePay™ device. But you can also follow the steps in your welcome email.

Before you start, make sure you have the following easily accessible:

  • Welcome email from us with your Merchant ID and username
  • Mobile phone associated with your merchant facility, to receive the one time passcode
  • App Suite Code from your POS vendor
  • Wi-Fi details.

On the ANZ BladePay™ device:

  1. Select Let’s get started.
  2. Update the time, date and time zone details and press Next. (This step is not required if a SIM card is inserted as the date and time will be based on cellular carrier settings.)
  3. Toggle the Wi-Fi connection On. The ANZ BladePay™ device will prompt you to set up ANZ FastPay® Next Generation.
  4.  Enter your Merchant ID, username and the one-time passcode (usually 8 digits) sent to the mobile phone number associated with your merchant facility then select Log In.
  5. Choose a PIN that will be used to log into your device from now on.
  6. If this is the first device you’ve setup on your Merchant ID, you will need to enter the App Suite Code provided by your POS vendor:
    • Press Link App Suite.
    • Enter in the App Suite Code provided by your POS vendor. Create a name for the App Suite in the App Suite Name field.
    • Please Note: The App Suite Name will appear in the App Suite list on any subsequent ANZ BladePay™ device associated with this Merchant ID. The App Suite Name will also appear in the ANZ FastPay® Merchant Portal.
  7.  Any apps associated with an App Suite that has been linked to the ANZ BladePay™ device will now download.
  8. Your setup is now complete and the tile app screen will appear.

If you have queries about the physical device, the payment component of your ANZ BladePay™ device is not working, or anything else, contact our ANZ Merchant Contact Centre on 1800 039 025.


No, ANZ BladePay™ does not store any card data. The device is certified to current Australian Security Standards including PCIDSS and EMV compliance. 

The scrambled keypad feature is designed as an extra layer of security to protect your customers’ card details.

App Developers have created apps for use on ANZ BladePay™. These apps are typically developed by each POS vendor to specifically work in combination with their own POS systems only.  

Apps are made available to merchants through the ANZ FastPay® App Catalogue, accessible through your device. Each POS vendor will give you the necessary App Suite Code to download and access their app on your device.

At this stage there are no other apps available. Therefore, if you're not a customer of a POS vendor who has built an app for ANZ BladePay™, this device is not suitable for you. 

This is pre-loaded operating software on all ANZ BladePay™ devices, although you probably won’t need to use it very often. The ANZ FastPay® Next Generation App simply enables your POS vendor app to connect to the card reader at the top of the device to take payments. All transactions should be via your POS vendor app.

Your ANZ BladePay™ device also comes pre-loaded with default apps to help you manage the ANZ BladePay™ settings, as well as app updates from ANZ and your POS vendor.

It’s easy - we'll update the ANZ BladePay™ site when new POS vendor apps are added to the App Catalogue. We suggest you check the App Catalogue regularly so you don’t miss out on any apps that may be beneficial to your business. Your POS vendor may also get in touch with you when they develop new apps for ANZ BladePay™ to ensure you don’t miss out.

Yes you can, but you’ll need to enter into a merchant agreement with American Express separately, and then tell us your American Express ID so we can activate AMEX acceptance. 

By default, transactions processed before 6:30pm AEST/AEDT will settle into your ANZ business account that evening. Transactions processed after 6.30pm AEST/AEDT will be settled into your account on the following business day. You can change the default cut-off time to suit your business needs by calling 1800 039 025. If you settle into a non-ANZ account, settlement times vary but will usually take 2-4 business days.


The ANZ FastPay® Merchant Portal allows you to view detailed information on transactions conducted on your ANZ BladePay™ devices. 

You can access the ANZ FastPay® Merchant Portal here. You will require your Merchant ID, username, and a one-time password that you should have received via SMS when you signed up for ANZ BladePay™. If you did not receive this, please call 1800 039 025.


ANZ BladePay™ can be charged like any other Android device, via a standard micro USB charging cable with the device. 

The battery will typically last eight hours with a single charge based on active usage.

Press and hold the red button on the bottom of the ANZ BladePay™ device for approximately three seconds.

  • Use of ANZ FastPay® Next Generation and ANZ BladePay™ requires a cellular or wireless internet connection. Temporary service interruptions may occur. 

  • ANZ BladePay™ is preloaded with the ANZ FastPay® Next Generation app. All other apps available in the ANZ FastPay® App Catalogue are developed by third parties (unless otherwise noted in the ANZ FastPay® App Catalogue). To the extent permitted by law, ANZ is not liable for any of these third party apps.

  • The ANZ BladePay™ battery lasts for approximately 8 hours on a full charge, depending on active use. 

  • ANZ FastPay® Next Generation processes Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards and EFTPOS cards as well as American Express credit cards. To accept American Express Cards, you will need to enter into a Merchant Agreement directly with American Express separately, and then advise ANZ of your American Express ID.

  • Whether your business will enjoy the benefits described here will depend on your business and whether your POS vendor has built an app for ANZ BladePay™ with the appropriate functionality. Speak to your POS vendor about whether their app is right for your business.
