About ANZ:

  • ANZ traces its origins to the Bank of Australasia, which opened its first office in Sydney in 1835. The bank established a Melbourne office in 1838, where ANZ's world headquarters is located today.
  • ANZ is a publicly listed company, and was incorporated on 14 July 1977 in Australia. ANZ is the main holding and operating company for the Group and our registered office is Level 14/100 Queen Street, Melbourne.
  • We are one of the five largest and most successful companies in Australia, and we are the number one bank in New Zealand.
  • We have assets of AUD$392.6 billion.
  • We operate in more than 30 countries across Australasia, the Pacific, Europe, Dubai, USA and Asia, including our technology and operations centre in Bangalore, India.
  • We have 327,703 shareholders and our total shareholder return for the 12 months to 30 September 2007 was 15.6%.

Community:

  • We are leading the way in Australia on financial literacy and inclusion. With our partners, we have been recognised by winning the Prime Minister's award for Excellence in Business Community Partnerships.
  • We aim to reach 5,400 families by 2009 with our matched savings program, Saver Plus, which was developed in partnership with the Brotherhood of St Laurence. Saver Plus helps families on low incomes develop a savings habit and build assets for educational purposes.
  • We also have an adult financial literacy program called MoneyMinded that was delivered to more than 20,000 people nationally in 2007, working in partnership with financial counsellors and community educators.
  • ANZ was the first major Australian company to release a Reconciliation Action Plan. Our plan outlines the specific and measurable steps we will take to address the issues of Indigenous financial literacy and inclusion, as well as the most aggressive Indigenous employment targets of any major corporation.
  • MoneyBusiness, developed in partnership with the Australian Government, aims to assist in increasing money management skills and confidence of Indigenous Australians in remote locations.

Environment:

  • ANZ was named "Best In Class" on climate change for the second year in a row by the Carbon Disclosure Project.
  • In 2006, we adopted the Equator Principles - a voluntary initiative designed to standardise the consideration of environmental and social issues in Project Finance transactions in developing countries.
  • We are an active member of the United Nations Environment Program Finance Initiative which seeks to ensure our policies and actions promote the consideration of the environment and sustainable development.
