Gender diversity

At ANZ, improving the representation of women in leadership and achieving gender equality is a business imperative.

It’s about accessing the talent, markets and economic opportunities that gender equality brings.

Key initiatives

We report on performance against our public targets, including our gender diversity targets, through our Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting. Our annual ESG Supplement highlights some of the key initiatives and programs we have put in place to address gender balance, including:

Gender-balanced recruitment

Ensuring a female candidate is interviewed for every role, where possible, and all interview panels contain at least one woman.

Return to work

The Return to Work program is focused on removing barriers faced by highly skilled individuals, particularly women, when trying to return to workforce after a career break.

Flexible working

All roles can be worked flexibly at ANZ, ensuring we are better able to meet the needs of our customers and our staff.

How we work is an evolution of flexible working whereby the vast majority of our teams will work to a 'hybrid' or 'blended' model - that is 2 to 3 days in the office and 2 to 3 days at home.

Employee networks

Grass roots networks that focus on gender balance issues.

Partnerships and programs

ANZ is the business partner of programs that support gender balance and the equal representation of women in the workplace, particularly in senior leadership roles.

ANZ is the principal business partner of Chief Executive Women (CEW). We have shared goals to increase the representation of women in senior leadership roles and boardrooms and to increase the economic empowerment and financial capability of women.

In 2021, ANZ and CEW launched a new scholarship opportunity for women leaders working across the fields of environmental and corporate sustainability as well as sustainable finance. The CEW & ANZ Sustainability Scholarship is designed for female sustainability practitioners with at least five years leadership experience looking to develop their skills and enhance their capabilities.
